The realisation of why Health and Safety is important truly hit me when I witnessed several life-altering accidents that could have been easily prevented. One of the victims was a colleague whom I deeply respected and enjoyed working with. He sustained severe head injuries from what seemed to be a minor risk work activity, and the accident a terrible impact on his life. At the time of the accident, he was the primary provider for his young family, consequently, his resulting disabilities resembled the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, which prevented him from working for a long time, Im not sure he ever returned to work. This incident must have had a significant emotional and financial impact on him and his family.
You never forget
I’ve witnessed many accidents over the years and seen how they’ve hurt people and their families. This is what motivates me more than anything because I believe that everyone deserves to return home safely. No one should sustain an injury at work and end up unemployed, experiencing financial worries, depression, or not be able to do the things they love, or this families breaking up due to the pressure.
